Cluttered room, cluttered mind
I like to think that our spaces reflect our character; our desks, our rooms, they all have pieces of ourselves lodged in them, a picture here, a scribble there. But I think that the state of these spaces can often also reflect the state of our mind. Being a student, I am currently living in the chaos of juggling classes, readings, papers, extracurriculars, volunteering, a social life, the list goes on...and it causes my brain to be full of everything all the time. Today I looked at my desk, then around my room, and I realized that something had to be done. It was just too messy for me to handle; I had to clear up at least some of the clutter. Two things; one, this actually helped my overcluttered brain feel better when my space was cleaner, and second, I think it is essential that we do this for our brains too. Whether it's writing down everything on your mind, or just a simple to do list, or perhaps venting to a friend over coffee; whatever it is that helps you to drop your shoulders and feel ready to tackle the day, I encourage you to clean your space and declutter your mind.
